Jenna Ervasti’s video presents a window into the process of material development in Maria Korkeila’s BA menswear collection, while shedding light onto the role of textiles in this research. Korkeila’s creative process begins with visual and conceptual research, followed and accompanied by material development, which in turn, reshapes and defines the concept. Thus, creating a constant dialogue between the physical and the conceptual. Being able to make materials from scratch is a tool that frees the fashion designer from limitations of having to work with existing ones, enabling her to truly create something original of her own

Jenna Ervastin tekemä video esittelee Maria Korkeilan kandidaatin opinnäytteenä toteutetun miestenvaatemalliston taustalla olevaa materiaalien kehittely- ja suunnitteluprosessia. Korkeilan suunnittelutyö alkaa visuaalisesta ja konseptuaalisesta taustatyöstä, jota seuraa tekstiilimallien kehittely. Suunnitellut materiaalit muokkaavat ja täsmentävät taustalla olevaa konseptia, muodostaen jatkuvan vuoropuhelun konkretian ja idean välille. Omien tekstiilimateriaalien toteuttaminen on työväline, joka vapauttaa vaatesuunnittelijan valmiiden materiaalien rajoitteista, antaen mahdollisuuden luoda jotakin todella ainutlaatuista.
