Inspired by the play of light through stained-glass windows, Knit Divisions is a study of creating spaces with layers of colours and soft structures. The project is a collaboration between architect Juha Kivistö and textile and fashion designer Anna-Mari Leppisaari. The three elements that combine knitted fabrics and wooden frames, all function as separate spatial dividers, but together they form an artistic installation. The work aims to experiment with and push the knit techniques and structures further. Various concepts including 3-dimensionality, transparency, seamless knitting and structurality are explored. These elements draw a link between knitted fabrics and spatial thinking.
To illustrate the versatility of the knits, each spatial divider is complimented with a garment using the same materials and techniques. The knits are a collaboration with TextielLab and the wooden frames with Studio Markus Koistinen.
